Projects & Cooperation
Projects & Cooperation
From its earliest years, Ocean Roamers has dedicated part of its time, expertise and operational capacity to projects with a wider environmental or social purpose.
That commitment reaches back to our liveaboard and diving operations in the Red Sea, where commercial activity was accompanied by support for nonprofit initiatives, marine research and environmental work.
Commercial marine tourism and responsible stewardship of the marine environment should reinforce one another.
We continue to dedicate part of our efforts to marine sustainability, nonprofit cooperation, environmental research, professional-sector development and projects capable of creating wider value beyond a single commercial assignment.
Corporate responsibility
A long-term commitment
Marine tourism depends directly on healthy marine ecosystems and responsible coastal development. For Ocean Roamers, contributing to the protection, understanding and sustainable use of those environments has therefore always been part of working within the sector.
Over the years, this has included supporting nonprofit initiatives, contributing operational resources and professional expertise, assisting marine research and environmental work, and helping develop projects intended to improve practices within the diving and marine tourism industry.
We do not view sustainability and commercial development as opposing objectives. Where possible, we look for ways in which viable tourism operations, stronger professional standards and better stewardship of the marine environment can support one another.
Recent field work
Curaçao
Ocean Roamers’ involvement in Curaçao goes back to 2017, when Henri Hemmerechts spent a year working within the destination’s diving sector.
In 2026, that earlier work was revisited through a new two-month field review, resulting in an updated assessment of Curaçao’s diving industry, marine environment, governance and stewardship challenges.
The detailed field review and recommendations are published through the International Association of Dive Professionals.

IADP — International Association of Dive Professionals
The International Association of Dive Professionals is an independent nonprofit organization focused on strengthening professional standards, representation and cooperation across the diving industry.
Ocean Roamers contributes operational, digital, communications and project-development expertise to the continued development of IADP. The association remains organizationally separate from Ocean Roamers and is not an Ocean Roamers-owned brand.
Current IADP development includes professional membership standards, industry representation, Diver Card and Pro Diver Card member value, destination assessments, environmental initiatives and broader professional-sector development.
